(Danville, Va.) — A Danville woman has been charged with setting a house fire on Martin Avenue. 30-year-0ld Mikka Hodnett was charged with arson and attempted malicious wounding following an investigation by the fire marshal’s office.

The Danville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 199 Martin Avenue at 9:30 Thursday morning. Crews arrived at 9:36 am and found fire coming from the front and right side second-story windows of a 2-story house. All occupants were reported outside of the home.

Crews knocked down the flames from the window and entered the house to locate the fire.  The fire was located in an upstairs bedroom and Engine 2’s crew began extinguishing the flames.

The fire was knocked down and under control in 15 minutes. The house sustained moderate fire and smoke damage in the upstairs bedrooms and smoke and water damage on the first floor. All of the occupants escaped unharmed and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Twenty-one firefighters were on the scene for 3-and-a-half hours.
