(Danville, Va.) – Neither rain nor power outages could stop Danville from gaining a spot among cities that will receive money for historic Main Street preservation projects.

Partners in Preservation announced Monday that a local restoration project on North Union Street is one of ten in the nation to qualify for a $150,000 grant.

American Express, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Main Street America announced the winners of the 2018 Partners in Preservation: Main Streets campaign. The winners were chosen through Partners in Preservation, a partnership between American Express, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Main Street America that supports preserving historic sites. The 11 winning historic sites will receive a total of $1.6 million in grants.

Danville was competing with 20 other sites across the country, including Los Angeles and Baltimore. Online public voting determined the winner and Danville ranked eighth among the participating localities.

Danville’s grant will be used to assist in the restoration 206 and 208 North Union Street.
