(Pittsylvania County, Va.) – A man whose vehicle was swept away by floodwaters has died.

Virginia State Police responded to the 600 block of Sandy Creek Road in the Mt Hermon community around 3:30 Thursday afternoon after receiving a report that a man was trapped in his vehicle. They tried to reach the vehicle but say the waters were too deep and too swift for them to maintain contact.

Special agents with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and volunteer firefighters searched and found James King Jr.’s body downstream. King was 45 and lived in Dry Fork.
