(Yanceyville, N.C.) – Caswell County prosecutor Jacqueline Perez will seek the death penalty for 52-year-old Donald Scott Layne.

The Danville man was formally indicted on first-degree murder, attempted first degree murder, kidnapping, rape, breaking and entering, and forcible sexual offense charges Tuesday morning.

The charges stem from a September 14 attack at a home on New Walter’s Mill Road in Caswell County. Lane is charged in the shooting death of Juanita Hankins at her Providence home and with wounding her daughter, Stephanie Snead, who had worked for Layne.

Layne is charged with rape, abduction, and kidnapping in a March incident that happened at his  Megabounce business in Danville. That trial has been postponed.

If convicted of capital murder, Layne could face the death penalty.
