(Giles County, Va.) – A man who served as a Giles County police chief for three years is now charged with rape and abduction.

Virginia State Police say 48-year-old Kevin Buckland was arrested this week and charged in an incident that is alleged to have happened in June. The reported abduction happened Aug. 16. State Police say both incidents involved the same woman.

Buckland made his initial court appearance Tuesday.

Buckland served as Rich Creek’s police chief from 2003 until 2006, when he was fired. He said at the time that he refused the town council’s request that he resign and was dismissed from the job.

Buckland is currently at the New River Valley Regional Jail.
