(Henry County, Va.) — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Martinsville man with robbery after they say he held up a good Samaritan who thought he was helping a stranded motorist.

Dennis Neal Harris Jr., 36, is charged with robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The robbery happened about 6:30 on the evening of July 6. Police say Harris flagged down 83-year-old Charlie Redd Jr. and told him he was out of gas.

After buying the man some gas, police say Harris held Redd at gunpoint, and took his wallet, keys and cash.

Harris is being held at the Henry County Jail without bond.
