(Eden, N.C.) — A pregnant Eden woman died when the car in which she was riding went off the road and crashed into a tree in Eden, North Carolina.

18-year old Meranda Leigh Galindo of Eden was taken to Moses Cone Hospital where she died from her injuries.

The wreck happened after a trooper with the North Carolina Highway Patrol tried to stop a 2002 Honda for speeding shortly before 6 p.m. Friday.

The driver, 19-year old Khalil Ja-Ray Williamson of Reidsville, refused to stop and a chase ensued.

Police said Williamson turned onto Moir Mill Road, lost control of the car, went off the road and struck a tree. The car overturned on the shoulder of the road.

The driver and the right front passenger were taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for their injuries. Galindo was in the back seat.

The conditions of the other two were not available.
