(Danville, Va.) — Danville Utilities is asking customers to conserve energy from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. starting today and continuing through Wednesday.

The request follows a peak alert issued by the city’s wholesale power supplier.

Peak alerts are issued when conditions are right for a surge in demand that could put energy use at the highest point of the year. The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 96 in Danville for the next three days.

The supplier bases its generation capacity charges on the five highest peak usage hours from June through September.

Danville customers are asked to conserve use of air conditioners and large appliances for the nest three afternoons.
