(Danville, Va.) – Danville Police are investigating a shooting incident that happened Wednesday afternoon near GLH Johnson Elementary School at Northmont Boulevard and Melrose Ave.

Danville’s 911 center received a call around 3 p.m. The caller said a male was shooting at the school and that people were seen running.

The caller described the suspect as wearing green pants, a black hooded sweatshirt and being light-skinned. The caller could see that the shooter had a gun and said he was last seen running on Melrose Ave.

Investigators responded and within minutes detained an 18-year-old male on Nor Dan Drive.

During the initial response, Johnson Elementary School and Danville Public School officials were notified and the school was placed in lock down.

The initial investigation indicates the shooting was not directed at the school or students of the school. There have been no reports of injuries at this time.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
