(Henry County, Va.) – A Bassett man was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Henry County Saturday night.

Virginia State Police have identified the victim as 52-year-old Fletcher L. Ross. He was driving a 1989 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck along Route 220 when it ran off the left side of the highway and struck an embankment. The pickup then hit two highway signs and the embankment a second time before finally coming to a stop. Ross was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the pickup truck.

Ross was transported to Martinsville Memorial Hospital where he died later that night. The accident happened just before seven p.m., less than a mile south of Route 220’s intersection with 674.

Trooper B.M. DeLoatch is continuing his investigation into the crash.
