(Mobile, Alabama) — A man wanted in a Franklin County Dollar General armed robbery earlier this month was shot and killed by police in Alabama on Thursday night. 32-year-old Sanders Clayton Surber of Martinsville, was driving a stolen PT Cruiser from Henry County, during a police pursuit in Fairhope, Alabama. According to Baldwin County Sheriff Huey Mack, Surber exited the vehicle brandishing a shotgun. In the interaction, Surber was shot several times. Two officers reportedly discharged their firearms. Surber was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Oct. 18, the Dollar General off of Virgil H. Goode Highway was robbed at gunpoint. Another drug-related armed robbery occurred the following day in Franklin County and authorities developed Surber and two others as suspects.
Michael Gillispie, 35, of Union Hall, and Derrick Phillippe, 31, of Ferrum, each face multiple robbery counts. Both remain in jail.
