GRETNA, Va. – Two people are dead following a shooting in the northern end of Pittsylvania County.

Virginia State Police and the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident, which happened shortly after noon Wednesday on West Gretna Road.

Pittsylvania County deputies responded to the parking lot of the Dairy Queen on West Gretna Road for a 911 call after gunshots and screams were heard around 12:15 p.m.

The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said there are two victims and that it is an active death investigation. An infant boy who was related to the deceased was found inside the car, unharmed. The baby is in the care of other family members.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for examination. They have been identified but their names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
