DANVILLE, Va. – UPDATE AT 8 P.M.:  Danville Utilities has switched about two-thirds of the customers who were without power over to service from another substation. With the switchover, the city has about 1,200 customers who remain without power. These customers are in the following areas: Westover Drive from Woodlawn to the city limits, Riverside Drive from Spring Ave. to the city limits, and Berry Hill Road, Vandola Road, Moorefield Bridge Road, and Meadowview Ave.

The city bringing in and setting up a mobile transformer unit to serve these customers. The mobile unit may not be in service until midday Tuesday.

DANVILLE, Va. – More than 3,500 Danville Utilities customers lost power Monday and the city says some could be in the dark through the early morning hours on Tuesday.

According to the city, a blown lightning arrestor has damaged a transformer bushing at the Westover Substation.

A statement from the city said that crews are working to move some customers over to another substation while the Westover station is out. The customers who can’t be moved to the other power source may be without power until about 4 a.m. Tuesday.
