(Danville, Va.) — The National Weather Service has Danville under a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 8:00 Tuesday night and extending through 6:00 Wednesday afternoon.

Blacksburg meteorologist Anita Silverman says Southside Virginia can expect a wintry mix in this storm, which is moving out of the Tennessee Valley and Southern Appalachians into the Mid-Atlantic region.

Here in Danville, Silverman says the precipitation will start as rain and snow overnight before changing to rain and sleet and then to sleet before daybreak. The National Weather Service is expecting freezing rain before noon on Wednesday, following by rain Wednesday afternoon and into the night on Thursday.

Mixed precipitation is expected. She says Danville could see up to one inch of snow and sleet and up to one-tenth of an inch of ice in this system.

Silverman cautions that the accumulation will make driving hazardous and could lead to downed tree limbs and scattered power outages.
