(Danville, Va.) — Governor Ralph Northam stopped by Danville’s Institute for Advanced Learning and Research Tuesday, where he spoke to a room full of middle schoolers interested in careers in computer science.

The governor has proclaimed this as Computer Science Education Week in Virginia and is touring eight different locations throughout the state. During his stop in Danville, Northam got a firsthand look at the Institute’s Smart Table, which is using the latest technology to grow tomatoes. After the tour, the governor took a quick spin around the parking lot in a self-driving tractor used for farming.

He said he was impressed by the efforts in Danville to modernize the state’s largest industry, agriculture.
