(Danville, Va.) – The National Weather Service says Danville could see 4-6 inches of rain associated with Hurricane Florence.

While the storm has weakened, Blacksburg meteorologist Will Perry says the Danville area could still see winds gusts of up to 40 mph Saturday and Sunday. And with the ground already saturated, Perry says downed trees could lead to power outages.

He says the main concern for Danville is the possibility of flooding along the Dan River.

The heaviest concentration of rain will start Saturday afternoon and continue Sunday, with showers expected through Tuesday morning.

Perry said Danville was spared the brunt of the storm because Hurricane Florence turned south; however, he cautions that there is still a threat of flooding and flash flooding as the huge storm makes its way inland.
