(Danville, Va.) — Members of the Danville Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (an auxiliary of the US air Force) are ready to mobilize as soon as Hurricane Florence moves through and search and rescue operations begin.  Danville crews are local volunteers who constantly train for air and ground missions to help assess damage and help in search and rescue efforts.  Local CAP members who have Operations Qualifications in everything from flying to communications and ground search have responded to a call for volunteers  who will be available to travel to hard-hit areas where critical damage has occurred.

Local Danville and Southside Virginia  Civil Air Patrol members who are available to take days off  from work over the next two weeks have added their names to a mobilization list and will be waiting for a call to go to damaged areas as soon as the needs have been assessed.

Leading up to Hurricane Florence making land fall, the Virginia Wing of Civil Air Patrol has been moving its airplanes to inland airports (including Danville) to get them out of the storm’s path.
