(Halifax County, Va.) – A fast moving thunderstorm with high winds knocked out power to some residents on the Southside late Thursday afternoon.

Residents of the Kentuck community in Pittsylvania County were briefly without power after a problem with a feeder circuit during the storm.

Most of the Town of Clarksville lost power after high winds cut a path through town, taking out several large trees. The toppled trees brought down power lines, causing widespread outages affecting about 500 customers.

Wind damage in Salem knocked out emergency phone service at the Virginia State Police Headquarters; however, the land lines were repaired within an hour.
