(Danville, Va.) – An early morning house fire sent a family of four fleeing into the night.

Danville firefighters were called to 115 West Thomas Street just after 12:40 Friday morning. The first units on scene reported fire showing from a basement window and heavy smoke throughout the house. The family had gotten out safely before assistance arrived.

Crews entered the home and confined the fire to the basement. Units were on the scene for about 90 minutes.

The house received moderate damage and the Red Cross is assisting the four occupants.

The fire marshal determined that the blaze started in some unattended cooking.

There were no injuries.
