(Halifax, Va.) — A 47-year-old Halifax man has been charged in a weekend shooting.

Jeffrey Rymel Neal is charged with malicious wounding and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in a Saturday morning shooting on Mountain Road in Halifax.

Police were called to the scene of an altercation and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Investigators say he was hit by a shotgun blast but was treated at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Neal faces multiple charges in the assault and is being held at Blue Ridge Regional Jail under no bond.
