(Danville, Va.) — One person died when fire raged through a home on Sunset Drive early Saturday morning.

Firefighters answered the call at 185 Sunset at 4:40 a.m. The first units on scene reported that flames were visible for several blocks.

The single-story house was fully involved and crews had to work quickly to keep the flames from spreading to adjoining homes.
Crews fought the flames from outside with the assistance of a ladder truck. The fire was knocked down within twenty minutes.

Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian K. Alderson said that “due to the intensity of the fire no one was able to search inside for an extended period of time.” A family member advised that one person was probably trapped inside the house.

Once the fire was brought under control, crews found one person dead inside the home. The victim’s name is not being released at this time pending positive confirmation of the person’s identity.

The Danville Fire and Police Departments are investigating and will release a report once a determination is made as to the cause of the fire.
