(Danville, Va.) — The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a winter weather advisory for Danville and the surrounding area that starts Saturday and extends through noon on Sunday. The precipitation is expected to begin as rain in Danville before transitioning to a rain and snow mixture Saturday night, then changing to all snow early Sunday morning. There will be periods of rain and snow Sunday before the storm exits Southside around noon.

Blacksburg is predicting a total accumulation in Danville of between one-to-two inches, with higher amounts to the west and north of the city.

Danville Public Works crews will monitor street conditions Saturday and Sunday. Additional personnel are on standby. Plows and salt and sand spreaders are ready to go. There are no plans at this point to pretreat the major streets with brine because the weather event will begin as rain.
