(Chatham, Va.) — The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is warning about a phone scam seeking donations to a bogus fire fund. The caller in the telephone scam seeks donations on behalf of the Pittsylvania County Fire/Rescue Association.

The Sheriff’s Office has verified that there is no active solicitation campaign, and says the Association never asks for donations over the telephone.

Several complaints have been received. Police say that if you get a call like this, write down the number as it appears on your caller ID and email the Sheriff’s Office at sar@pittgov.org
