(Halifax County, Va.) – A woman who was charged with stealing an emaciated dog she took to an animal shelter has seen charges against her dropped in Halifax County.

The commonwealth attorney asked that charges against Christen Waddle be dropped at a Wednesday arraignment. The judge complied and now Waddle says she is considering filing charges of her own against the animal control officer who arrested her.

Waddle was arrested the day after Christmas and charged with the misdemeanor theft of a dog and felony theft of the dog’s tracking collar.

Waddle said she was trying to rescue the dog when she picked it up out of the road six days earlier after seeing it nearly get hit by a car.

Her arrest followed a Dec. 20 disagreement with a group of hunters at a Centerville gas station. The hunters were attempting to retrieve a male hunting dog, and the GPS tracking collar the dog was wearing.
