God’s Pit Crew volunteers will embark to the mountain town of Nebo in Western North Carolina this fall for a powerful mission of hope, building two brand-new homes for families whose lives were forever changed by Hurricane Helene.
From September 27 through October 10, volunteers will deploy to Nebo, North Carolina, where they will work to fully build and furnish new homes for the Honeycutt and Hollifield families, who lost their homes in the catastrophic flooding and severe effects of Hurricane Helene.
The two homes are part of a larger vision God’s Pit Crew is bringing to life in Nebo: a community of eight new homes for families impacted by Hurricane Helene. The project is being made possible through the support and partnership with Samaritan’s Purse and the Ray and Kay Eckstein Charitable Trust.
The homes have been framed and prepared at God’s Pit Crew’s headquarters in Danville, Virginia, and are being transported to the Nebo community, where volunteers will spend two weeks completing the homes from the ground up.
During the build, volunteers will work to transform the homes into places where the families can begin again. The work will include completing construction, painting, installing fixtures and appliances, furnishing the homes, and adding the personal touches that turn a house into a home.
For the Honeycutt and Hollifield families, the journey represents far more than rebuilding a structure. It represents the restoration of stability, security, and hope after Hurricane Helene took so much from their families and communities.

“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve the Honeycutt and Hollifield families and to provide this larger community of eight homes. We believe these homes will stand as a reminder that even after devastating loss, there is still hope.”
Since Hurricane Helene devastated the region, God’s Pit Crew has provided more than 50 brand-new, fully furnished homes to individuals and families severely impacted by the storm across Western North Carolina, East Tennessee, and Southwest Virginia, with additional homes currently in progress.
The Nebo project is part of God’s Pit Crew’s ongoing commitment to help families recover from Hurricane Helene, which devastated communities across the Southeast in September 2024. Since the storm, God’s Pit Crew has provided extensive disaster relief throughout the region, including immediate response efforts, critical relief supplies, and new homes for families who lost everything.
The ministry’s building program brings together volunteers, donors, ministry partners, and communities to provide families with fully furnished homes at no cost.
