The Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce joined Rivermont Schools, local leaders, community partners, and guests on Monday, August 10, to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Rivermont Schools’ new location at 301 Lowes Drive in Danville.
The celebration marked an exciting new chapter for Rivermont Schools and their continued commitment to serving students and families throughout the region.
The new 20,000-square-foot facility provides a therapeutic educational program for students ages 5–22 in kindergarten through 12th grade with special needs, including autism spectrum disorder, behavioral challenges, and difficulties learning in a traditional school setting. The new facility features:
- 14 classrooms for individualized instruction and flexible student grouping
- Dedicated therapy rooms for supportive services
- A gymnasium and playground for movement and recreation
- A cafeteria and library for connection and learning
- A life skills room for practical instruction
- A sensory room offering students a calming space during the school day
Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones joined the celebration and offered remarks welcoming Rivermont Schools to its new location. Dr. Beth Ackerman, Senior Vice President of Rivermont Schools, and Fiesta Martin, Regional Vice President of Rivermont Schools, also shared remarks about the organization, its mission, and the significance of the new Danville location.
“The Chamber is proud to celebrate organizations that invest in our community and provide meaningful resources for the people who live and work here,” said Keddra Walker, Director of Programming & Events for the Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce. “Rivermont Schools’ commitment to supporting students and families is an important addition to our community, and we are excited to celebrate this new chapter with them.”
The ceremony concluded with the official ribbon cutting as attendees celebrated with the message: “Here’s to a new chapter for Rivermont Danville and to the students and families we are proud to serve.”
Rivermont Schools has been a valued part of the Danville community for 28 years and has grown to the point that a larger facility was needed to better serve its students and families.
