A Pittsylvania County man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his wife. On Wednesday, 66-year-old Lonnie Rowland was sentenced to life in prison and three additional years for first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

On September 14, 2025, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded at 7:51 pm to a female subject found deceased in the Derby Road area of Pittsylvania County. Upon arrival deputies found Cynthia Rowland  at her residence with an apparent gunshot wound. Rowland was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lonnie Rowland was found guilty of the charges in April.
