Human remains were found in Rockingham County on Monday. The Reidsville Police Department in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), and the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, conducted an investigative operation at the Ruffin Rock Quarry in Ruffin on Monday.

During the operation, investigators recovered additional human remains from the site. The remains will be submitted to the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further examination and analysis.

Based on the evidence collected on Monday and April 8, 2026, authorities believe the remains recovered during both operations belong to the same individual.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been determined. Due to the complexity of the identification process, investigators anticipate that it may take six months to one year before a positive identification can be made.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Once the human remains have been positively identified, the Reidsville Police Department will provide appropriate notifications and release additional information as it becomes available and can be shared.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Reidsville Police at 336-347-2338.
