DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 838 Hughes Street at 5:12 am Saturday. Crews arrived and found a one-story house with fire extending from rear of the building.

The fire was knocked down and under control at 7:11 am. The bedroom sustained heavy fire, smoke, heat, and water damage with the rest of the house sustaining heat and smoke damage.

The house was occupied at the time of the fire, but all occupants were located safely outside. One was treated for smoke inhalation on scene and released.

Sixteen firefighters were on the scene for about 90 minutes.

The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
