DANVILLE, Va. – A Danville man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the death of his infant son in August of last year.

23-year-old Antoine Jefferson was sentenced in Danville Circuit Court to a total of 50 years with 25 years suspended.

An autopsy showed that his 3-month-old son’s injuries were consistent with having been shaken.

Jefferson told police he shook the baby by his head and cheeks because the infant would not stop crying. The medical examiner’s office found the child suffered from extensive head trauma resulting in death.

The parents took their unresponsive child to the Sovah Health emergency department on Aug. 9, 2020. The baby was later transferred to Duke University Medical Center, where he died three days later.
