DANVILLE, Va. – An 18-year-old has been charged after a man was shot as he rode in a car in North Danville Tuesday morning.
Iyshon Jonoz Jones of Danville was arrested and charged with four counts of attempted malicious wounding, four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and a single count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
A 42-year-old Danville man was a passenger in a car traveling in the 1400 block of North Main Street when the vehicle was struck by stray gunfire. He was transported to Sovah Health-Danville with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the vehicle and its occupants were not involved in the altercation that led up to the shooting and the victim was not the intended target of the shooter.
According to authorities, an altercation occurred between two groups of individuals. One group was in the yard of a home in the 1200 block of North Main Street, while the other was traveling in a vehicle along North Main.
The altercation escalated and multiple shots were fired. The vehicle that was involved in the altercation was also struck by gunfire but no other injuries were reported.
