DANVILLE, Va. – An event company has purchased hundreds of acres of land off Route 29 and plans to develop a 30,000-seat amphitheater between Danville and Chatham. Purpose Driven Events — the company that bought The Ridge, formerly known as Phase 2 and Cattle Annie’s — plans to develop the concert venue for festivals and shows.

Developers hope to open the venue in the summer and say it will serve as host to major artists.

The Blue Ridge Amphitheater will sit on a 300 acre tract of land in Pittsylvania County and was chosen because of its proximity to cities like as Lynchburg, Roanoke, Danville and Greensboro.

The company said the layout for the amphitheater will be scalable, allowing for as small a capacity as 5,000, and as many as 30,000 attendees for larger shows.

The amphitheater is slated to open in August. Five music festivals have already been booked for later this year.
