DANVILLE, Va. – The Dan River didn’t reach the record crest predicted initially by the National Weather Service, but flooding still caused some headaches locally.

The Dan River overflowed its banks, flooding the parking lot and entrance to Cotton Restaurant and the Spectrum building downtown, along with the parking lot of an apartment complex on Bridge Street and a number of flood-prone roads throughout the city.

The waters covered the Riverwalk Trail and forced some motorists to change their routes.

The Dan River crested in Danville Friday night at 26.11 feet. Moderate flood stage is 26 feet.

All of the roads that had been closed in Danville had reopened by late Saturday but a number of thoroughfares remained closed in Halifax County Sunday night. The Dan River was still in minor flood stage – 22 feet — at Paces on Sunday.

The Dan Rivers fell below moderate flood stage in South Boston on Sunday.
