HENRY COUNTY, Va. – An Axton man suffered multiple gunshot wounds in a Saturday night shooting.

The Martinsville-Henry County Emergency 911 Center received a call shortly after 9:30 p.m. that someone had been shot at 725 Mitchell Road in Axton.

When deputies reached the scene, they found 31-year-old Timothy Jarod Mitchell with gunshot wounds to his chest, arms and buttocks. He was alert and coherent and was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Health for treatment.

Mitchell told investigators that he was outside his home when an unknown black male wearing a mask approached and shot him several times.

During the course of the investigation, deputies found a white powder near the area where Mitchell was shot. They believe the substance was an illegal narcotic.

The investigation into this shooting continues.
