DANVILLE, Va. – The remnants of Tropical Storm Sally could bring 2-to-4 inches of rain to the Danville area, however, no major flooding is expected along the Dan River basin.

National Weather Service meteorologist Robert Beasley said that a Flood Watch is in effect for the region through 2 p.m. Friday. He expects the heaviest rainfall to occur between 4 p.m. and midnight tonight.

While 2-to-4 inches of rain could lead to flooding in low lying areas and streets with poor drainage, he does not anticipate major problems with this storm. Beasley said that’s because the heaviest rain is going to fall below the Dan in the Roanoke River basin, adding that “generally when we get a lot of flooding in the Danville area we’re going to have heavy rain upstream as well.” That isn’t the case with Sally.

The remnants of Sally should move out of the area Friday, leading to a fall-like weekend with highs only in the 60s.
