(Danville, VA) – Preparations are underway for students to return to campuses around the country in a few short weeks and the same goes for Averett University in Danville.  The school released its phased reopening plan Wednesday and while the academic calendar itself will remain mostly the same there will be some major operational changes.

The plan that’s being called “One Averett, Together Again,” will see students attending classed on Labor Day in lieu of fall break and students will not return to campus once they are released for Thanksgiving break.  Classwork and finals will be handled remotely for the remainder of the semester.  This decision was made in order to reduce the times people travel in and out of the region.

According to Averett President Dr. Tiffany M. Franks, “We remain completely committed to delivering an exceptional, on-campus experience while doing our part to keep everyone safe.  Averett thrives on close, personal connections and access to supportive relationships between our students, faculty, staff and the larger community. We are one Averett, one family, and we are ready to be together again.”

Fall sports will resume in accordance with NCAA regulations as well as the USA South Conference’s guidelines.  Health and Safety measures on campus like health self-assessments, the use of face coverings, social distancing and increased disinfecting will continue for anyone on campus.  Classrooms will have plans in place in case of student illnesses and social distancing.  The same will be said for large open areas for community gatherings with reduced capacity.  Dining halls will no longer have self-serve buffets and hours will be extended to avoid overcrowding.
