DANVILLE, Va. – A Danville couple will spend twenty years in prison after pleading guilty to the drug-related death of their two-month-old daughter.

27-year-old Eugene Chandler Jr., and Shaleigh Brumfield, 26, had been charged with felony homicide and abuse and neglect of a child.

Danville Police were called to a home on Maple Grove Road on November 24, 2018, where they found the father holding an unresponsive baby. Emergency workers administered CPR but Marleigh Chandler died in the emergency room.

The baby had both heroin and cocaine in her system and police found evidence that both parents were using and selling drugs. At least one of the parents had been sleeping with the baby shortly before she died.

Both pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, child abuse and neglect, and two counts of distributing drugs.

They were sentenced Wednesday .
