(Pittsylvania County) – Sheriff’s investigators were called to Axton Friday morning after a body was found in a field.

The remains are those of a male, although the race is undetermined.

The discovery was made just after 9 a.m. in the 1500 Block of Oak Hill Road. A caller reported seeing what appeared to be a body in an open field.

The cause and manner of death are undetermined at this point and the body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for autopsy and identification.

At this point, the case is being carried as a death investigation.
