(Randolph County, N.C.)  — The man accused of abducting his 7-month-old daughter at knife-point from a Danville gas station will stay in North Carolina, at least for now.

Carl Kennedy made his first appearance in a Randolph County courtroom on Wednesday afternoon. The hearing was held to determine whether Kennedy would be extradited back to Danville, where he faces abduction and domestic assault charges in the June 3rd kidnapping. The 51-year-old was arrested in Randleman Tuesday at the end of a two-day manhunt.

WFMY 2 reports that the judge ruled that Kennedy should remain in Randolph County for the time being because he still has pending charges in North Carolina that need to be dealt with before he is returned to Virginia.

Court records show Kennedy has 10 pending charges against him in Randolph County, including possession, conspiracy to sell and distribution of cocaine.

The judge also said he has yet to receive the paperwork for Kennedy’s extradition to Danville.

Kennedy is expected back in court on July 11. He is being held at the Randolph County Jail.
