(Halifax County, Va.) — Virginia State Police are looking for the driver involved in a hit-and-run accident in the northern end of Halifax County.

It happened just before 7 a.m. on Route 501 near the Staunton River and the Campbell County line.

Two cars were headed north on 501 when one of the vehicles tried to pass the other on the right shoulder. A man walking on the side of the rode was struck, along with a guardrail. The impact threw the pedestrian to the ground and the driver fled the scene.

The pedestrian was transported to Centra Lynchburg General Hospital where he is still being treated for life-threatening injuries.
The vehicle should have damage to the windshield, right front end, and passenger side.
