(South Boston, Va.) – A plant downsizing in St. Louis could result in more jobs here on the Southside.

Swiss technology giant ABB will halt production of power transformers at its St. Louis plant and move the work to company facilities in South Boston and Crystal Springs, Mississippi. More jobs will follow, but the exact number has not been disclosed.

Christopher Shigas, ABB’s director of media relations in the U.S., said the Swiss company will set-up new traction transformer manufacturing operations to serve the rail industry at the South Boston facility.

The planned restructuring will be completed in the coming year and will help ABB  meet the needs of customers while allowing the company to remain competitive.
