(Richmond, Va.) – Unemployment rates fell in Danville and Pittsylvania County in September, reflecting a trend seen throughout Southside Virginia.

The Virginia Employment Commission says Danville’s jobless rate dropped from 6.1 in August to 5.7 percent in September.

Pittsylvania County’s unemployment rate also dipped two-tenths of a percent, dropping from 4.6 percent in August to 4.4 percent in September.

Henry County’s unemployment rate fell from 5 percent in August to 4.7 percent in September. In Halifax County, the rate dipped from 5.6 percent in August to 5.2 percent in September.

But all of the rates remained above the state average. At 4.2 percent, Virginia’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate remains below the national average and fell two-tenths of a percent in the month-to-month survey.
