Danville, Va -Danville Utilities is warning customers not to fall for a new telephone scam. At least six local businesses have been called this week by people claiming to be with the Utilities department.  The caller advises them to call an 877 number and pay their bill immediately or risk having their power turned off. Utilities Director Jason Grey says they NEVER call customers for payment.  They always send multiple reminders through the mail.  Grey says if YOU receive such a call, try to get the phone number, then hang up and call Danville Utilities directly and report it.  But do NOT give out any information like social security, credit card or bank numbers.
