(Greensboro, N.C.) – The trial for a Danville man charged with murder is underway in Greensboro. 28-year-old Craig Deonte Hairston of Danville faces a first-degree murder charge in the Sept. 2, 2014, shooting death of Kevin Millner at the Holiday Inn Express in Greensboro. Police say the shooting was an attempted robbery gone wrong.

Millner was found shot to death in his car after a landscaper reported seeing someone asleep in a parked car in 95-degree weather.

Colby Wade Watkins of Danville and Montray Price of Greensboro also face charges in Millner’s death.

The Greensboro News and Record reports that Watkins told the jury he saw Hairston with a gun that day but did not see him shoot Millner.

Millner had parked outside the hotel early that morning after getting into a fight with his girlfriend.

Watkins told jurors he drove from Danville to Price’s apartment in Greensboro to buy marijuana. While at the apartment he met Hairston, before deciding he wanted to go to the Holiday Inn Express Greensboro to buy more drugs. Surveillance video shows Watkins repeatedly driving around the hotel with Hairston in the passenger seat.
