Pancake Breakfast

Danville Elks Lodge will host pancake breakfast Saturday, August 23rd, 7am - 11am, to benefit Danville Cancer Association at Elks Lodge 560 Main Street. Plates are $5 and include: pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee.

Car Wash

Community Baptist Church will be having a Car Wash Saturday, August 23rd from 12pm - 3pm at the church (located at 611 Iris Lane). All proceeds will go to benefit the Youth Group. The price of the car wash is by donation.

Summer Bazaar

The Danville Farmers' Market will combine with the Summer Bazaar and feature local produce, meats, crafts and yard sale items inside and out the Danville Community Market building Saturday, August 23rd from 7:30am - 12pm.

South Prophets Concert

The Southern Prophets, of Bassett, Va, will be performing at Piney Forest Seventh Day Adventist Church Saturday, August 23rd at 7pm.

Golf Class Registration

The First Tee of Danville is now accepting registration forms for golf students.  Kids will not only learn to play golf, but they'll be taught lasting values such as integrity, perserverance and sportsmanship.  The First Tee is open to children from 7 - 17.  Scholarships are available! CIT Online House of Hope Fundraiser

CIT is currently conducting a contest called “FOODORTUNITY.”  This is a corporate wide contest  with CIT and all locations (worldwide) are involved.  Each location got to choose a non-profit organization in need of food donations to vote for and the Danville office picked the Danville House of Hope Homeless shelter.  The organization that gets the most votes will be awarded $10,000 from CIT, 2nd place is $5,000 and 3rd place is $2,500.   This is just not for CIT employees but ANYONE can vote.  All you have to do is log onto this link: CIT FOOD CONTEST, click on The Danville House of Hope and your vote is then cast!  You can vote once a day—but, you can vote from as many different devices as you have (cell phone, lap top, home computer, etc.).   People will NOT be contacted by CIT nor will their information be shared with anyone—all voting is anonymous.  The contest runs through August 29th and the winners will be announced September 15th.

Justin Harris Memorial Benefit

Gretna Fire Department is hosting the 11th Annual Justin Harris Memorial Benefit Saturday, August 30th from 10am - 4pm.  There will be music throughout the day, breakfast and lunch concessions, a baked good sale, silent aution, crafts and BBQ for sale and more! Proceeds from this event will be used to help continue the work of the Grenta Fire Department and Gretna Rescue Squad.

Dan River Mills Reunion

Pickin' By the Lake

Piedmont Community College Alumni Partnership presents: Pickin' By The Lake at Mayo Lake Park in Roxboro, NC.  This event will take place Saturday, September 6th.  It's an all day music festival featuring some popular, local Bluegrass favorites: The Bluegrass Brothers, The Malpass Brothers, Tyler Jackson and Drive Tyme and Third Wheel.  Tickets are available at Piedmont Community College and Ronnie's Appliance.  See four bands for just $10 per advance ticket or $12 at the gate.  Kids 12 and under get in free!

Cruizn' At The Danville Mall

Time Machines Car Club and Danville Mall are proud hosting a Cruise-In every first Saturday of the month through September at Danville Mall from 6pm – 9pm. Cruise-In is open to ALL vehicles – from stock, special interest, modified, antique to performance and motorcycles).  Admission is a donation of a non-perishable food item and/or toiletries for God’s Storehouse
Each Cruise-In will feature a 50/50 Drawing with proceeds going to God’s Storehouse

Crucial Conversations: They Start with Nurses; Battle Against HPV-Related Cancer

Nurses are invited to join a FREE workshop about HPV-related cancers and what nurses can do to help battle against it.  This workshop will feature Barb Bancroft, RN, MSN, PNP and will be held Saturday, September 13th from 8am - 2:45pm at Danville Community College: Oliver Hall.  There will be a continental breakfast and lunch provided.  Space is limited and pre-registration is required by Tuesday, September 9th.  Call DRMC's registration office at 434.799.3705, select option 1.

Benefit Vendor Expo

God's Store House is sponsoring a vendor event, open to the public.  Vendors will pay a $25 registration fee plus 2 nonperishable items.  People who want to shop at the event will either pay a $5 fee or at least 2 items for God’s Storehouse.  The event will be held on September 13th 9-3pm at the Blairs Middle School beside Southside Elementary School. Vendors will need to bring their own tables.

Archery Tournament Fundraiser

Renan Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a Archery Tournament Fundraiser Saturday, September 13th from 8am - 2pm.  The tournament will be held at the Staunton River Archery Club (15725 Rockford School Road, Hurt, VA 24563).  Entry fee is $15.  Classes include: youth, women, cross bow, hunter and competition.  There will also be concessions and 50/50 raffle.  All proceeds benefit the fire department.  For more information, call 434.335.4906.

Tour for Emma

Cyclists can join in a day of fun to support Emma Thorton and her family as she battles her second round of cancer.  "Tour for Emma" will take place Saturday, September 13th. Registration begins at 7:30am and the event will begin at 9am.  Fee is $20.  This event is for beginners as well as experienced rides - ride at your own pass.  It will take place at Wilco, Inc. (680 River Park Drive, Danville).

ConKerr Cancer: A Case for Smiles

You can help raise awareness for childhood cancer AND help put a smile on the face of those children going through treatments.  You're invited to join ConKerr Cancer: A Case for Smile - Pillowcase Event, Monday, September 15th , 1pm - 8pm at Zinc Total Salon.  You can help sew pillowcases for children with cancer; bring a sewing machine, pins, thread and/or scissors (there will be three machines on site to share throughout the day). Fabric will be provided.  You're welcome to stay the entire day or help for just a few moments. RSVP by September 10th if you want to be involved. The goal is to sew ONE MILE of pillowcase - 2,112 pillowcases total. 

Dinner will be provided and served at 5:30pm.

Car Show

Anderson Volunteer Fire Department is hosting their 8th Annual Car Show Saturday, September 20th from 8am - 3pm at the Casweel County Brightleaf Hoedown.  The car show will benefit the Anderson Fire Department by purchasing supplies and equipment needed by the department to assist southern Caswell County.  For more information, contact Pam Ward at pward@tpp-tmp.com.

Turbeville VFD Fall Bash

Turbeville Volunteer Fire Department Fall Bash will be Saturday, September 20th from 8pm - Midnight at the World of Sports.  This event will feature Matt Boswell and the Hillbilly Blues Band.  Proceeds from this event will be used to assist the department with extensive costs for Fire & EMS equipment, truck payments and maintenance of the building.

They are currently looking for sponsors for this event to help cover the cost of up-front expenses such as the location site, entertainment, and advertising.  Participating sponsors will be featured in advertisements and announced repeatedly at the event.  They are also offering a platinum sponsorship status to those who donate $500.00 or more.  In addition to the advertisements and announcements throughout the event, becoming a platinum sponsor will entitle you to display your signage with your business name along with two tickets and a reserved table for eight.

VFW Monthly Steak Dinner

VFW Post 647 Ladies Auxilary hosts a steak dinner every first Friday of the month from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  Dinner includes steak, baked potato, salad, bread, drink and dessert for $12.  This is available for dine-in or take-out.  VFW Post 647 is on Highway 58 W across from Big Sky rents in Danville.  Funds from these dinners stay local and are used to help the community.

Pet Adoption Fair

AWLOPC (Animal Welfare League of Pittsylvania Co.) has a adoption fair every Saturday inside Petco from 12pm to 4pm. Swing by and find your new furry best friend! For more information, contact Diane Mayhew via email: dianemayhew73194@yahoo.com

Let's Dance!

Mondays are dancing nights at Ballou Recreation Center!  Learn new dances, make new friends, and get some exercise in the process.  Class meets every Monday night, 7 till 8:30pm.  Cost is $4 per class. To register or for more info, call 799.5216.
