Rabies Clinic

Cherry Grove Ruritan Club (located at 8173 Cherry Grove Road, Reisville, NC 27320) will be conducting a rabies clinic for both dogs and cats, Friday, May 8th, starting at 6pm. The cost is $8 per animal.

Bake Sale

Your chance to purchase some homemade goodies Saturday, May 9th starting at 8am...2 miles west of Clarksville, Va on HWY 15 in the parking lot of the flea market.

Letter Carrier Food Drive

The National Association of Letter Carriers, Rural Letter Carriers and the US Post Office are holding their annual food drive May 9th.  Leave non-perishable food items (no glass please) at your mailbox before your carrier arrives.  Volunteers or Postal Workers will collect donations.  Donations may also be dropped off at God's Storehouse on Memorial Drive in Danville.  This is to help stock up the food supply to help those in need in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area.

Catfish Tournament

The 14th annual Halifax Volunteer Fire Department Catfish Tournament will be held May 9th at the #2 Picnic Shelter at the Staunton River State Park.  Captain's meeting at 6:30pm.  Men, lady and junior angler awards plus cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.  Prepared food on site before start and at weigh-in and awards.  Additional info at halifaxfiredepart@firehouseemail.com.

Let's Talk About It

Caswell Friends of the Library invites you to participate in their "Let's Talk About It" book discussions at Gunn Memorial Public Library (161 Main Street East, Yanceyville, NC).  Books are available at the library for check out.  The events will be March 14th, March 28th, April 11th, April 25th and May 9th from 10:30am - 12pm.

Paws & Claws Gala

May 15 -Paws & Claws Gala - A Night for the Animals - an evening of entertainment by Danville Area Humane Society  celebrating 40 years of service to the lost, abandoned and homeless animals - giving them a second chance.  Stratford Conference Center - 7:30pm - 11:30pm.  Music by The Pizazz Band, vegetarian hor d'oeuvres, cash bar, dancing, photo booth, silent auction, and more.  $30 per person - $300 reserved table of 8.  Advance ticket sales only.  No tickets sold at the door.  For more information, call 434.799.0843.

Carry Their Load - Veteran Suicide Awareness Event

Every day, 22 veterans commit suicide.  You're invited to walk to raise awareness and hopefully lower that statistic from 22 to 0. "Carry Their Load" will take place Saturday, May 16th at 10am at the Halifax War Memorial in Halifax, VA (located at the at the intersection of Mountain Road and Route 501). Participants will walk from the Halifax War Memorial to South Boston’s Constitution Square (distance 5.2 miles). There will be water and healthy snacks provided along the way and food after the hike.  Bring your American flag and come

Chicken Dinner

Gretna Volunteer Fire Department is having a blackpot chicken dinner May 16th at 5pm.  Meal consists of blackpot chicken, string beans, mac and cheese, roll, homemade dessert and drink for $8 a plate.  Take out plates available.  Proceeds support the fire department.  For more information, contact Benjamin Meeks at 434.250.0177

Dog Wash

Danville Area Humane Society is hosting a Dog wash Saturday, May 23rd from 9am - 12pm at the Danville Community Market.  Small dogs - $10; medium dogs - $12; large dogs - $14; nail trim - $5.  Rain cancels the event.  For more details, call 434.799.0843.


You're invited to join in the fun on displaying your classic car or just admiring those participating in the monthly Cruise-In at Danville Mall.  Cruise-Ins will be 6pm - 9pm at the Danville Mall every first Saturday of the month through September.  Donations will be accepted on site to benefit the Danville Cancer Association.  For more information, contact Veronica at 434.792.0400.

Diabetes Self Management Workshop

VFW Monthly Steak Dinner

VFW Post 647 Ladies Auxilary hosts a steak dinner every first Friday of the month from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  Dinner includes steak, baked potato, salad, bread, drink and dessert for $13.  This is available for dine-in or take-out.  VFW Post 647 is on Highway 58 W across from Big Sky rents in Danville.  Funds from these dinners stay local and are used to help the community.

Pet Adoption Fair

Zumba with Alice

The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind interval training fitness pogram.  The fun routines combine to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat.  Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you have a smokin' Zumba class! Prime Time Fitness (PTF)

Let's Dance!
