Danville Braves Food Drive


The Danville Braves want your help with their efforts of stocking God's Storehouse with food for those in need.  They're having a food drive at all of their home games July 28th through August 2nd. If you bring three non-perishable food items, you'll receive a free ticket or voucher for a free hot dog and Coke product.  God's Storehouse is in need of canned meats, breakfast cereals, rice, dried beans and any type of pastas. Pancake Breakfast


The Sons of the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 will hold an All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast Saturday, August 7th from 7:30am - 10am.  Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee.  Funds will support the Sons of the American Legion Programs, post, veterans and the community.  For more information, contact Rick Humphries at 793.7531.

BBQ Leg Quarter Chicken Dinner


The Sons of the American Legion Dan River Squadron 1097 will hold a bbq leg quarter chicken dinner on Friday, August 8th beginning at 5:30pm.  Dinner includes chicken, slaw, baked beans, hushpuppies, dessert and tea/coffee.  The funds from the event will support programs, post, veterans and the community.  For more information call 793.7531.

AWLOPC Benefit Concert


The Animal Welfare League Of Pittsylvania County is hosting a benefit concert Saturday, August 9th from 7pm -9pm  at Gretna Theatre.  Cost is $8 for adults; kids 12 - 6 $4 and children under 5 get in free! There will also be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and bake sale! Proceeds from this event will benefit the AWLOPC in their efforts of giving more furry friends forever homes.

"MILTON" - Performance


Award-winning interdisciplinary theater company PearlDamour announces the world premiere of MILTON, a three-person performance comprised of spoken word and song that examines what it means to be American through the lens of small-town life.
 
The production is a culmination of two years’ worth of site visits made by PearlDamour’s Katie Pearl and Lisa D’Amour to five towns named Milton across the United States. In Wisconsin, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Louisana, and Oregon, PearlDamour interviewed local residents and community groups about where they live and how they define their role in the world.

Performances of MILTON will take place on Friday, August 8, at 7pm; Saturday, August 9, at 2pm and 7pm; and Sunday, August 10, at 2pm and 6pm at the Milton Women’s Club, located at 11928 Academy St., Milton, NC, 27305. Digestion vs Indigestion Seminar


Dr. Bhushan Pandya, a Board Certified gastroenterologist practicing at Danville Gastroenterology Center will be presenting a free dynamic and interactive program, Digestion vs. Indigestion on Tuesday, August 12, from 11:30am -1pm, at Ballou Recreation Center, lower level, at the corner of West Main and Park Avenue, Danville.   Digestive disorders are one of the most common disorders and s ymptoms can be attributed to a variety of causes, such as acid reflux and many others, including esophageal cancer, which has been on the rise over the last several years.   Find out more! This program is part of the popular free Keeping Well in Mind, Body & Spirit Series for those concerned with cancer prevention and survivorship, and is open to the entire community.  Everyone can benefit from the presentation.   It is brought to the Dan River Region by the Cancer Research and Resource Center of Southern Virginia in partnership with Danville Parks & Recreation.  The Cancer Research and Resource Center is funded by VCU Massey Cancer Center and the Tobacco Commission.   Please being your lunch and a friend!   Drinks and dessert are provided.   Boxed lunches can be ordered in advance for $6.00.   Call the Cancer Center to make a reservation, 434.421.3060.
 

Family Fun Days


Dan River Church proudly presents: Family Fun Days Friday, August 15th and Saturday, August 16th.  Kids will love all the great rides, giveaways, crafts and more! Easter Brothers Concert

Play for Emma Kaye Softball Tournament


 
You can have fun and help a great cause Saturday, August 23rd and Sunday, August, 24th during the “Play for Emma Kaye” Softball Tournament at Caswell County Parks & Recreation. Emma Thornton is a second grader who has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time in two years. This benefit is a co-ed tournament requiring three girls minimum per team. Party in the Plaza


Martinsville Speedway will come alive August 22, not with the rumble of race cars, but with the great sounds of music and fun as the track hosts its first Party In The Plaza.
 
Set in The Plaza, a new addition to the track, the evening will include a rocking good band, great food, including the Famous Martinsville Speedway Hot Dog®, and cold beverages.
 
Sponsored by the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, the inaugural Party In The Plaza will kick off at 6 pm  Friday, August 22, and run to 10pm. Admission is $5. It will be chamber appreciation night, with each member of the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce receiving two free tickets.
 
The featured band will be Project 4, a Roanoke-based band which has played in pre-race at Martinsville Speedway several times. The popular group mixes smooth harmonies and great musicianship, and no genre of music is off limits. From classic funk, to the Beatles, to Crosby, Still and Nash, to popular rock and country, Project 4 plays it all. And the fun-factor with one of their shows is high.

Pickin' By the Lake


Piedmont Community College Alumni Partnership presents: Pickin' By The Lake at Mayo Lake Park in Roxboro, NC.  This event will take place Saturday, September 6th.  It's an all day music festival featuring some popular, local Bluegrass favorites: The Bluegrass Brothers, The Malpass Brothers, Tyler Jackson and Drive Tyme and Third Wheel.  Tickets are available at Piedmont Community College and Ronnie's Appliance.  See four bands for just $10 per advance ticket or $12 at the gate.  Kids 12 and under get in free!

Cruizn' At The Danville Mall


Time Machines Car Club and Danville Mall are proud hosting a Cruise-In every first Saturday of the month through September at Danville Mall from 6pm – 9pm. Cruise-In is open to ALL vehicles – from stock, special interest, modified, antique to performance and motorcycles).  Admission is a donation of a non-perishable food item and/or toiletries for God’s Storehouse
Each Cruise-In will feature a 50/50 Drawing with proceeds going to God’s Storehouse

VFW Monthly Steak Dinner


VFW Post 647 Ladies Auxilary hosts a steak dinner every first Friday of the month from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  Dinner includes steak, baked potato, salad, bread, drink and dessert for $12.  This is available for dine-in or take-out.  VFW Post 647 is on Highway 58 W across from Big Sky rents in Danville.  Funds from these dinners stay local and are used to help the community.

Golf Class Registration


The First Tee of Danville is now accepting registration forms for golf students.  Kids will not only learn to play golf, but they'll be taught lasting values such as integrity, perserverance and sportsmanship.  The First Tee is open to children from 7 - 17.  Scholarships are available! Tour for Emma


Cyclists can join in a day of fun to support Emma Thorton and her family as she battles her second round of cancer.  "Tour for Emma" will take place Saturday, September 13th. Registration begins at 7:30am and the event will begin at 9am.  Fee is $20.  This event is for beginners as well as experienced rides - ride at your own pass.  It will take place at Wilco, Inc. (680 River Park Drive, Danville).

Let's Dance!
