Sheriff's Night Out


Spend the evening with your neighbors and local law enforcement Tuesday, April 28th in the Chatham county parking lot from 5pm - 8pm! They'll have food, fun, music - all while strengting our police and community partnerships.  For more information, contact Natalie Oakes at 434.432.7713.

Eat Out to Help Out


Local restaurants donate 10% of their total proceeds for one day to God’s Storehouse. As the need for help with food increases among many of our neighbors, this is an opportunity for the rest of the community to help the less fortunate by eating at the participating restaurants. Your chance to purchase some homemade goodies Saturday, May 9th starting at 8am...2 miles west of Clarksville, Va on HWY 15 in the parking lot of the flea market.

Letter Carrier Food Drive


The National Association of Letter Carriers, Rural Letter Carriers and the US Post Office are holding their annual food drive May 9th.  Leave non-perishable food items (no glass please) at your mailbox before your carrier arrives.  Volunteers or Postal Workers will collect donations.  Donations may also be dropped off at God's Storehouse on Memorial Drive in Danville.  This is to help stock up the food supply to help those in need in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area.

Catfish Tournament


The 14th annual Halifax Volunteer Fire Department Catfish Tournament will be held May 9th at the #2 Picnic Shelter at the Staunton River State Park.  Captain's meeting at 6:30pm.  Men, lady and junior angler awards plus cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.  Prepared food on site before start and at weigh-in and awards.  Additional info at halifaxfiredepart@firehouseemail.com.

Let's Talk About It


Caswell Friends of the Library invites you to participate in their "Let's Talk About It" book discussions at Gunn Memorial Public Library (161 Main Street East, Yanceyville, NC).  Books are available at the library for check out.  The events will be March 14th, March 28th, April 11th, April 25th and May 9th from 10:30am - 12pm.

Chicken Dinner


Gretna Volunteer Fire Department is having a blackpot chicken dinner May 16th at 5pm.  Meal consists of blackpot chicken, string beans, mac and cheese, roll, homemade dessert and drink for $8 a plate.  Take out plates available.  Proceeds support the fire department.  For more information, contact Benjamin Meeks at 434.250.0177

Cruise-In


You're invited to join in the fun on displaying your classic car or just admiring those participating in the monthly Cruise-In at Danville Mall.  Cruise-Ins will be 6pm - 9pm at the Danville Mall every first Saturday of the month through September.  Donations will be accepted on site to benefit the Danville Cancer Association.  For more information, contact Veronica at 434.792.0400.

Diabetes Self Management Workshop


Southern Area Agency on Aging along with Danville Parks and Recreation will be hosting a Diabetes Self-Management Workshop at the Coates classroom at Coates Recreation Center.  They are currently taking enrollments and contact information for all who are interested.  The workshop and materials are FREE for all participants.  Refreshments will be served during these sessions.  Sessions meet on Thursdays for 2 1/2 hours.  For more information, contact Amanda Foddrell-Shuff at 1.800.468.4571 or Bryan Price at Danville Parks and Recreation at 434.797.8848.

VFW Monthly Steak Dinner


VFW Post 647 Ladies Auxilary hosts a steak dinner every first Friday of the month from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  Dinner includes steak, baked potato, salad, bread, drink and dessert for $13.  This is available for dine-in or take-out.  VFW Post 647 is on Highway 58 W across from Big Sky rents in Danville.  Funds from these dinners stay local and are used to help the community.

Pet Adoption Fair

Zumba with Alice


The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind interval training fitness pogram.  The fun routines combine to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat.  Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you have a smokin' Zumba class! Prime Time Fitness (PTF)


Begin your road to an active and healthy lifestyle today.  Jonathan Deshazor gets the program started witha  low-impact aerobic workout with a mix of various fun dance steps to keep you on your toes.  During the second half of the class, Jonathan  will lead a work-out of toning and sculpting with weights, dyna-bands or whatever it takes, to make this class a fun fitness class.  Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays at Coates Recreation Center from 9:30am - 11am.  Cost is $20 for a membership card or $2 per visit.  For more information, visit www.playdanvilleva.com or call 434.797.8848.

Let's Dance!



Mondays are dancing nights at Ballou Recreation Center!  Learn new dances, make new friends, and get some exercise in the process.  Class meets every Monday night, 7 till 8:30pm.  Cost is $4 per class. To register or for more info, call 799.5216.
