Christmas Meal for the Needy


The Community Market is spreading Christmas cheer on Christmas Day!  For everyone in need head to the Community Market for a Christmas Meal starting at 11am.  Coffee, hot cocoa and doughnuts will be served starting at 10am.  Blankets and coats of all sizes will be available.

SPCA Rescue Angel Tree


SPCA needs the community’s help to save animal lives!  Rescue Angel Trees are set up at several locations for donations.  Vet locations (Cherrystone, Chatham Animal Clinic, AMC, Mt. Stew and Bake Sale

Keeping Well Series: Cancer Prevention


Making Medicine Personal is an exciting kick off program for the Cancer Research and Resource Center of Southern Virginia’s, free 2015 Keeping Well Series: for those concerned with cancer prevention & survivorship.  This extended program on Tuesday, January 13, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm, at Ballou Rec Center in Danville, offers a variety of topics from outstanding experts in their fields. The Practical Workshops include:  Breathing – One Minute Stress Management; Knowing Your Family History; Your Medicine Chest; and the 5 Wishes.  During the delicious provided lunch, Dr. Connie Fletcher, a well known clinical psychologist, will present Slaying the Dragon – Dealing with Stress in Your Life.  Learn how to help master this ability. Knowing your family’s medical history, organizing your prescriptions and preparing your medical directive will reduce stress.  Organizing these personal medical issues is an excellent New Year’s resolution!  The program is appropriate for everyone and all ages.  Registration is required and lunch is provided to the first 75 people who register.  Call the Cancer Research and Resource Center today at 434.421.3060.
 

Spring to Green Horitcultural Symposium


Danville Mast Gardener Association is hosting "Spring to Green Horticultural Symposium" Saturday, January 31st from 8:30am - 4pm at The Institute (150 Slayton Avenue, Danville, Va).  Enjoy a day full of seminars about garden soil, landscaping, secrets to successful gardening, heirloom vegetables, perennials and vertical edibles for gardens.  In case of inclement weater, the event will be rescheduled for February 7th, 2015.  Registration to attend this event is required - Early Bird Special rate - $40 postmarked by November 15th; after November 15th, cost is $45.  Registration must be postmarked by January 19th.  Make checks payable to Danville Master Gardeners or "DMG" and mail checks to:

Running 4 A Reason


The 2nd Annual Running 4 a Reason 5K/10K and Kids Fun Run will be hosted by Westover Christian Academy Class of 2017.  This year, 30% of all proceeds will benefit the Danville Chapter of the March of Dimes.  Registration is open at www.wcarunning4areason.com through eventbrite.  Cost is $10 for children 2 - 12 and $30 for ages 13 and up. 

VFW Monthly Steak Dinner


VFW Post 647 Ladies Auxilary hosts a steak dinner every first Friday of the month from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  Dinner includes steak, baked potato, salad, bread, drink and dessert for $13.  This is available for dine-in or take-out.  VFW Post 647 is on Highway 58 W across from Big Sky rents in Danville.  Funds from these dinners stay local and are used to help the community.

Pet Adoption Fair

Let's Dance!



Mondays are dancing nights at Ballou Recreation Center!  Learn new dances, make new friends, and get some exercise in the process.  Class meets every Monday night, 7 till 8:30pm.  Cost is $4 per class. To register or for more info, call 799.5216.
