Brunswick Stew

GWHS Baseball Booster Club will be selling Brunswick Stew at Woodson Marathon Saturday, January 31st from 9am – 12pm.  Stew will sell for $6 per quart.  First come, first serve.

Spring to Green Horitcultural Symposium

Danville Master Gardener Association is hosting "Spring to Green Horticultural Symposium" Saturday, January 31st from 8:30am - 4pm at The Institute (150 Slayton Avenue, Danville, Va).  Enjoy a day full of seminars about garden soil, landscaping, secrets to successful gardening, heirloom vegetables, perennials and vertical edibles for gardens.  In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled for February 7th, 2015.  Registration to attend this event is required - Early Bird Special rate - $40 postmarked by November 15th; after November 15th, cost is $45.  Registration must be postmarked by January 19th.  Make checks payable to Danville Master Gardeners or "DMG" and mail checks to:

Kya Support Night

Danville's Buffalo Wild Wings is hosting a "Kya Support Night" to help a two year old girl battling kidney cancer.  A percentage of sales Wednesday, February 4th from 5pm - 9pm will go to help towards medical bills and travel for treatments at Duke.  Kya is currently undergoing many treatments to shrink the tumors in both of her kidneys in hopes of future removal.  Your dinner purchase could help this little girl and her family during this difficult journey.

Brunswick Stew

Pelham Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a Brunswick Stew Saturday, February 7th from 9am - 12pm.  Stew will be ready for pickup during those hours and will sell for $5 a quart. To preorder call 434.250.3734, 336.388.5993 or 336.388.5671.

All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast

The American Legion Auxiliary Dan River Unit 1097 will hold an All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast Saturday, February 7th from 7:30am - 10am at the American Legion Dan River Post (located at 17 Fairfield Avenue).  Cost is $5 per plate - eat in or take out.  Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee.  Funds from this event support the American Legion Auxiliary Programs, Post, Veterans and the community.  For more information, call 793.7531.

"Tons of Fun" Kids Event

Roanoke County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism along with Roanoke County Department of Economic Development and Tanglewood Mall are gearing up for another FREE “funtastic” Tons of Fun event. The 16th annual extravaganza for kids and families takes place at Tanglewood Mall from 10am – 4pm on Saturday, February 7th.
Joining in the fun for the first time is the award winning children’s performer, Roger Day. Day is a two time Parents’ Choice® Gold Award winner, his music and performance appeals to both children and parents alike and is a must see for all guests. Rounding out the day’s entertainment are exciting performance groups such as the Southernettes Baton Corps and Mark Fuller, magician extraordinaire. New to visit this year are the very popular costumed characters Spidey, Aladdin and the ever popular Snow Queen, who will help to make a very magical and memorable experience. A day filled with inflatable games, crafts, rides, face painting, interactive exhibits and much more will fill the mall as well as entertainment appealing to the young and young at heart.
Camp Fair is back this year, providing a great opportunity for families to meet with representatives from summer camps throughout the Mid-Atlantic, including Roanoke County’s Camp Roanoke. What better way to find out which camp is right for your child? Door prizes will include free weeks at camp!
Every child’s imagination will find an outlet in the array of activities and special attractions at Tons of Fun. Whether it’s an indoor scavenger hunt, making Valentine Cards for that special someone, or visiting with the Zoo animals, everyone will find something unique and fun to do. Each year we transform Tanglewood Mall into an indoor spectacular sure to amuse and thrill children and their families all day long!
Local organizations including, Mountain View Humane, Barnes and Noble, Roanoke County Police and Fire & Rescue, Fun Times Party Warehouse and many others are coming together to participate in this much anticipated yearly event. PATHS is offering a chance for folks to learn about the Affordable Care Act, Monday, February 9th, 10am - 4pm.  Get answers to questions, learn how you qualify for help and on site enrollment available.  This even is free of charge and will be hosted at 705 Main Street, Danville.  For more information, call 434.791.3630.

Danville Shag Club Beginner Classes

The Danville Shag Club will begin a six week Beginner Level I class on Monday, Feb 9th at 7pm at Santana's Restaurant located at 102 Tower Drive in Danville, VA. Lessons will be $30 for the six weeks of lessons. Class will take place in the banquet room and be taught by John and Janice Gilstrap.  Fees may be paid at the first class. Those interested should call Sandra Strader at 434.251.5226 or email sstrader0207@comcast.net to register.  A Beginner Level II "step" class will be taught on the same evenings at 8:00 following the Level I class at a separate cost of $5 per class. The first Level II step to be taught on Feb 9th will be the pivot.

Skin Cancer Health Seminar

Have you had a skin cancer removed and are unhappy with how the scar looks?  Have you had breast cancer and are considering breast reconstruction?   Did you know that there are excellent Plastic and Reconstructive surgeons in Danville?  You're invited to join in on a seminar February 10, from 11:30am - 1pm at Ballou Recreation Center, lower level for Skin Cancer and Breast Reconstruction:  How you could benefit.  This program is part of the popular free Keeping Well in Mind, Body & Spirit Series for those concerned with cancer prevention and survivorship, open to the entire community. It will be presented by two dynamic speakers, Dr. Henry Wilson and Dr. Keith Pitzer from the Centra Medical Group Plastic Surgery Center.  The information will be extremely interesting and valuable, and they will be available to answer questions.  Everyone can benefit from the presentation.  Please being your lunch and a friend!  Drinks and dessert are provided.  Boxed lunches can be ordered in advance for $6.  Call the Resource Center to make a reservation, 434.421.3060. 

Book Fair

O.T. Bonner Middle School is sponsoring a book fair Monday, February 2nd - Friday, February 13th in the large conference room of Bonner's library.  The fair will be open from 7:05am - 2:30pm.  This reading event will offer students, parents and teachers the opportunity to purchase attractive new books from more than 150 publishers in all popular price ranges.  All reading interests will be represented, including classics, fiction, biographies, adventure stories, graphic novels, science, nature, crafts, mystery and reference books.  For more information, contact Laura Sadler at 799.6446.

Empty Bowls Event

You're invited to join in the Empty Bowls event Friday, February 27th at God's Storehouse from 11am -2pm or 4:30pm - 7pm.  Dinner will include soup, crackers and water.  Entertainment will be provided throughout the day.  Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger.  The basic premise is simple: potters and artists work together to create handcrafted bowls for the event.  The guests are then served a simple meal in these bowls.  They are told to keep these bowls as a reminder of the empty bowls in the world.  For more information about this event, call 434.793.3663.

Running 4 A Reason

The 2nd Annual Running 4 a Reason 5K/10K and Kids Fun Run will be hosted by Westover Christian Academy Class of 2017.  This year, 30% of all proceeds will benefit the Danville Chapter of the March of Dimes.  Registration is open at www.wcarunning4areason.com through eventbrite.  Cost is $10 for children 2 - 12 and $30 for ages 13 and up. 

Diabetes Self Management Workshop

VFW Monthly Steak Dinner

VFW Post 647 Ladies Auxilary hosts a steak dinner every first Friday of the month from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  Dinner includes steak, baked potato, salad, bread, drink and dessert for $13.  This is available for dine-in or take-out.  VFW Post 647 is on Highway 58 W across from Big Sky rents in Danville.  Funds from these dinners stay local and are used to help the community.

Pet Adoption Fair

Let's Dance!
